Primanti Bros-My Fantastic Version-Episode 54
I show you how I spice up the famous Primanti Bros sandwich from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have never been a fan of the coleslaw. It is bland and flavorless and combine with two large slices of bread and frenchfries it lacks flavor.
I used a variety of meats in this version but you can use the meat of your choice in this blue collar sandwich. The idea behind this is that contained bread, meat, cheese and veggies in one easy to carry meal.
I am sure the diehard Pittsburgh fans will not be thrilled with the bread. It is usually sliced like a giant piece of Italian bread. I used Panne Italian sliced like this but either way it will be fine. I added my favorite Hot Chicago Style Giardiniera. You can find this in Chicago or the Pennsylvania Mararoni Company at Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
Ingredients
Slaw:

16oz finely shredded coleslaw

1/3 C Hot or Mild Chicago Style Giardiniera

1/2 C chopped onion
-
salt and pepper to taste
French Fries:
-
3-4 russet potatoes
-
cold water
-
1t baking soda
-
salt
Sandwich:
-
Fresh Italian Bread
-
meat of your choice
-
buffalo chicken
-
hot sopressata
-
finocchiona
-
rosette de lyon
-
provolone cheese
-
chipotle Mayo
-
tomato
Instructions
Slaw:
-
Mix all ingredients and let sit for at least two hours
French Fries:
-
slice potatoes and rinse in cold water
-
drain water and add more cold water with baking soda
-
soak for 15 minutes and then drain and dry
-
deep fry until lightly brown and drain on paper towel
-
deep fry a second time, drain and salt fries to taste
Build this Monster:
-
slice bread to desire size
-
add chicken and salamis
-
add cheese
-
add hot fries
-
add coleslaw
-
add tomatoes
-
top with chipotle mayo or plain mayo
-
top with bread and smash down and eat.
