A Better Lasagna Episode 33
Sometimes what you have been making for years isn’t that good anymore. Well here is a much better lasagna and yes I put Green Beans in it! This is a great fresh food you can really make with whatever fresh vegetables you have at the time. Don’t like meat, then leave it out. You could also substitute chicken, shrimp or whatever makes you happy. Recipes are guides but it up to you to not follow them. Hope you give this a try and don’t forget those green beans.
Ingredients
Sauce:
- 2T olive oil
- 1 C onion
- 1 T fresh garlic
- 1-2 t red pepper flakes
- 28oz petite diced tomatoes
- 28oz crushed tomatoes
- 1T sea salt or to taste
- 1 T dried Italian Blend
- 1/3-1/2 C fresh basil
Green Beans:
- 16 oz green beans
- 1 T pesto
- black pepper to taste
Other ingredients:
- fresh spinach
- provolone cheese
- mozzarella cheese
- pecorino romano cheese
- box or fresh lasagna noodles
- 5 hot or mild Italian sausages
Instructions
Sauce:
- heat pan with medium heat and add olive oil
- sweat onions for 5 minutes
- add garlic and red pepper and cook for 1 minute
- add rest of ingredients and simmer for 5 minutes
- set aside
Sausages:
- preheat oven to 400 degrees ( I used a convection oven)
- coat pan with olive oil
- Cook for 10 minutes and set aside to rest
Green Beans
- heat about 1/3 C of water and simmer beans for 5 minutes
- pour out excess water and add pesto and pepper.
- set aside
Layer order from bottom to top:
- olive oil
- sauce
- noodles
- spinach
- provolone cheese
- noodles
- sausage
- pecorino romano cheese
- sauce
- noodles
- green beans
- sauce
- mozzarella cheese
- noodles
- sauce
- back for 30 minutes at 400 degrees
- add fresh mozzarella cheese and melt in oven
- serve and enjoy!
