Holy Meatball Sandwich
When I was a kid I would not touch a meatball sandwich. If you like really plain and boring meatballs then this is not for you. These meatball are loaded with flavor. This recipe makes a ton of meatballs. You can freeze them. I only cooked a 1/3 of them. This is a great recipe for parties because it is easy to keep warm. Just add the cheese on the bottom and it will melt.
Ingredients
Meatballs:
- -3lb of 80/20 ground beef
- -1lb of hot Italian sausage
- -2 T fresh basil
- -1 t fresh oregano
- -2-3 fresh cloves of garlic
- -2 eggs
- -1 cup of bread crumbs
- 1/4-1/3 cup pecorino/romano cheese
- -salt and pepper to taste
Sauce:
- -28oz of crushed or petite diced tomatoes
- -1/4 cup of finely chopped onion
- -1 clove of garlic
- -1 T olive oil
- -2 t of fresh basil
- -1/2 t fresh oregano
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Meatballs"
- Hand mix and bake on greased pan @400 degrees for 15 minutes
- Add to sauce(recipe below) and simmer for 10 minutes.
Sauce"
- heat olive oil in pan
- saute onion and garlic over med heat
- add rest of ingredients and bring to a simmer for 10 minutes and turn off heat
- Note this is a bland sauce so it will not overpower the meatball.
